On July 13th, "Macao-Hengqin No.1", the first major-diameter subsea shield tunnel connecting Macao and Hengqin, departed successfully from Hengqin Station, marking the acceleration of the Hengqin extension line of the Macao Light Rapid Transit (LRT).
The line, planned to open in 2025, has an overall length of 2.2 kilometers, starting from HE1 Station in Macao (the existing Lotus Checkpoint station on the Taipa line), then crossing the Shizimen Waterway, and finally arriving at the HE2 Station (Hengqin station) located in front of Hengqin Port. It is an important express passenger corridor to facilitate public transport in both areas.

China issued the Overall Plan for Building Guangdong-Macao In-depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin last September, indicating to link Macao LRT and the urban railway transit network of Zhuhai and facilitate Macao residents' living and working in Hengqin.
The line will enhance the regional cooperation between Macao and Hengqin, creating a comfortable and convenient environment for cross-border travelling and helping Macao to be included in the "one-hour living circle" in the Greater Bay Area (GBA).
